If Willy Wonka made spices.
Welcome to the future home of Local Spicery - our brand new, 160-year-old piece of historic heaven. When we finish remodeling this beauty late this year, we will be able to do all of our processing, include a new retail location, and add a demonstration kitchen so we can open our doors to better share our flavors and recipes with our friends and followers. No golden ticket necessary!

Preserving History. Perfecting New Flavors
Built in 1857 as a Chinese herb store during the Gold Rush, the historic Kim Wing Building's bright future includes providing Local Spicery with more space, new equipment, and enhanced capabilities to continue to produce the highest quality spices and herbs on the market. But the path ahead involves a lot of work. Our building has been abandoned for about 40 years, and needs a complete seismic retrofit in addition to many other upgrades, like windows, doors, and a roof!.
But when complete, we will be able to take on much larger scale projects with the ability to receive product by the pallet, new processing equipment, and a state-of-the-art milling and blending rooms. Additionally, we will be able to cook throughout the day to test our blends and recipes, and we hope to be holding many more events like book signings, cooking classes, and music. When you visit, ask to see our manually-powered dumb waiter!

Coming Soon! Color-changing Tea.
Our Daughter, Rachel, was able to score some rare Butterfly Pea Flower from Thailand. When infused in water, the resulting tea is a deep cobalt blue, but when you add lemon or lime juice, the tea changes to a purple or pink! Very soon, we will be releasing a new tea blend that features the color-changing properties of this magical flower. We call it White Rabbit, and it features the flavors of lemon grass and cardamom. And just like the tea in the pictures, it changes color when you drop a little acid! For our chefs who want to experiment with this natural color-changing phenomena, Butterfly Pea Flower will also be available on its own. Try making Pad Thai with color changing noodles!
