Cumin
$8.50 – $24.30Native to the Mediterranean and South Asia, Cumin is also a signature flavor for Central American and European cuisines. As a symbol of love and fidelity during the Middle Ages, wedding guests carried Cumin in their pockets, and wives of soldiers added it to baked bread for their husbands. Our Cumin is hand harvested, and has a high percentage of essential oils, delivering more powerful aromatics, and a slightly astringent, citrusy quality.
Sage
$7.25 – $19.60Sage has been used for centuries as both a seasoning and healing herb. Once the most-used cooking seasoning, it was replaced by Oregano during World War ll when pizza & pasta came home with the return of U.S. servicemen. Use in stuffing, dressings, chowders, stews, tomato sauces, and breads. Cheese flavored with sage is fancied in England.
Ancho Chile Pepper
$5.50 – $11.50The Ancho Chile is the dried version of the Poblano Pepper and the most popular dried chile in Mexican cooking. The sweetest of dried peppers, with deep, rich berry flavors, mild bitterness, and mild to medium hotness, Ancho is frequently used as the base flavor of sauce and spice mixes like dry rubs or mole. We stem and partially seed our Anchos by hand before milling to provide the strongest Chile flavors without being overpowered by excessive heat. Try replacing paprika with Ancho Chile Powder in any recipe to bring a fuller, earthier Chile flavor and beckoning for you to take another bite.
Parsley
$7.25 – $19.60Dedicated to the Greek goddess Persephone, parsley was valued for medicinal purposes and folk magic well before it was incorporated into European cuisine in the middle ages. Romans used it as a breath freshener and to prevent intoxication from wine.
Use it as edible garnish or add to stews, soups, sauces, dressings, eggs, potatoes and vegetables. Parsley is said to help prevent halitosis! [Parsley]
Marjoram
$7.25 – $19.60Marjoram is known to represent joy. In ancient Greece and Rome, wreaths of marjoram crowned newly married couples to bring them love, honor and happiness. In the Middle Ages, it was carried at weddings and displayed in bouquets.
Marjoram, cousin to Oregano, is similar in flavor but more delicate. The dried leaves are light to the touch and mild in taste. Uses: omelets & cheese dishes, beef, veal, lamb, patés, poultry, stews, soups, veggies, pasta and salads. [Marjoram]
