I love all of the Local Spicery spices and spice blends that I have sampled and use on an almost daily basis, until now. I was super excited about the release of Bacon seasoning and ordered it immediately upon receipt of the email announcement. Unfortunately, it completely misses the mark, so much so that I can’t help wonder if the jar is mis-labeled. Because Pepperoni Seasoning is so perfectly on point, and I fully expected Bacon to be as well and preemptively planned on including in recipes in my soon to be published vegan cookbook, but instead it is going out in this week’s trash. Big disappointment.

I’m so sorry you were disappointed, Lori. We do our best to communicate tips on how to use our blends. From my experience, Bacon Seasoning shines the brightest when used in finishing. My favorite applications so far are sprinkled on avocado toast with lettuce and tomato (BLT), sprinkled on potato or lentil soups, sprinkled on corn on the cob, sprinkled over a wedge salad, and sprinkled over sweet potato fries. The common denominators being 1) use as a finishing flavor, and 2) it tastes the most authentically like bacon when it has the opportunity to combine with oils and carbs. We have been getting tons of recipes and anecdotes from other customers, and love getting all of your tips, and even disappointments. Please reach out to me at nick@localspicery.com any time you have a question or concern about one of our products. Nick

I agree that this isn’t really reminiscent of bacon and perhaps should be renamed. I didn’t expect it to be much like bacon, but when I tasted it, I kind of laughed and thought, wow, this is nothing like bacon! I think it might need powdered smoke added to help achieve that flavor profile. BUT, I have been using it in all kinds of recipes and it is now the first blend I reach for when I want a savory salt substitute. Today I wanted to soak some soy curls for a fajita recipe. Normally I would have used Better Than Bouillon, but now that I’m avoiding salt, I decided to try this seasoning instead. I was surprised how much flavor it added to the curls. I didn’t miss the BTB at all.

In a world of harsh commercial no-salt blends, these carefully crafted seasonings truly stand out.
