Vanilla ~ LAFAZA Pure Ground Organic Madagascar Vanilla
$20.00LAFAZA organic vanilla is one of the few items we sell that we don’t process ourselves. We met the founders in 2015 at the Oakland Farmers Market when Local Spicery was just starting out, and from the beginning, we appreciated their approach and commitment to their business ideals:
• to create sustainable, direct supply chains that protect the environment;
• to follow fair trade practices that support farmer livelihoods;
• and to only offer the highest-quality natural products to their customers.
LAFAZA grew out of a Peace Corps connection in Madagascar, and they continue to work directly with village farmers. Certified Organic Vanilla beans are sun-cured and dried to remove nearly all of the moisture in the pod. The beans are then ground to a fine powder and sealed in glass jars, keeping their delicious taste locked inside! Nothing added, nothing lost.
Organic Pure Ground Vanilla makes a convenient and delicious addition to baked goods, spice rubs, coffee, tea, specialty drinks, smoothies, dry mixes, and can be used in many recipes as a substitute for vanilla beans or vanilla extract. Use 1/2 teaspoon of ground vanilla to replace 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Each jar contains 1 ounce of the highest-quality pure ground Madagascar vanilla.

Cardamom Seed
$22.50Part of the ginger family, Cardamom means grains of paradise. Historically, Cardamom has been used to flavor foods, as an ingredient in perfumes, and even for medicinal purposes.
Known for its sweet and spicy taste, Cardamom seed is used equally in sweet dishes such as breads and cakes and in savory dishes such as meats and curries. Use in baked goods, sprinkle on oatmeal, ice cream, or iced melon, and add to curry. Cardamom has a sharp aroma and distinctive flavor that can be compared to anise or eucalyptus. For a Middle Eastern treat, sprinkle in your coffee.

When I lived in Germany Gluehwein (Hot Mulled Wine) was a seasonal favorite at the Christmas Markets. I was surprised and pleased to find this spice. It sure brings back fond memories! Pick a nice red wine as your base. I open the wine, put about a tablespoon of the spice mix in the bottle, then cork it back up for a day. Next put the wine in a glass container, warm it for 30 seconds, then stir in 1/4 of a cup of sugar to 1 1/2 cups of wine. Heat in 30 second increments, and enjoy! A nice cinnamon stick is the perfect garnish if you want to be fancy!
